Find a workout schedule that works out for you
According to various surveys, “lack of time” is the number one reason why people do less exercise than they would like to. With today’s fitness apps, you have literally everything in your hand to start working out right now.
So why is it that still so many people don’t follow up on their initial excitement when it comes to developing healthy habits? And, more importantly, what can you do to overcome this?
Prioritize consistency
You see it over and over again: People who buy all the gym clothes, an expensive membership and out of nothing start hitting the weights 5 times a week. This initial burst mostly holds up for only a few weeks. Why? Because working out 5 times a week is a lot, even for trained individuals. The result is the exact opposite of consistency: overtraining, sometimes even injury or burnout occurs.
There is nothing to be gained from this, because all results will vanish as quickly as they came. The human body is based on routine. If it’s not constantly reminded that it needs something, it quickly gets rid of it. However, newer research is suggesting that we may need less triggers for muscle growth and cardiovascular endurance than previously assumed. Even a relatively low volume (sets per week in the case of muscle training) is enough to provide a good amount of effectivity, if it's provided continuously over time.
Sure, more is still better, but the amount of work needed to achieve additional outcomes increases pretty quickly. So the bottom line is, even working out 1-2 times a week for 30 minutes can be enough to keep you strong and healthy, as long as you keep doing this for a sustained period of time.
Adapt your training to your life, not the other way round
There is an insane amount of programs, fitness apps and diets out there to use. And while we’re not suggesting that these are bad in any way, a common issue is that it's often hard to maintain the amount of work required. They are often intense and force you to reschedule other life assignments. This goes well for a while, but usually hits you back at a certain point. Isn’t the big idea to stay fit and live a healthy life?
So, especially when starting your fitness journey, we suggest to slowly integrate your training into your life without making crazy commitments. Get the ball rolling, and if you feel you can do more, add another day of training, stay a bit longer in the gym or just up the intensity during your workouts. That’s why in the Effeqtiv Motion app you can build your own specific training program from all the content and decide when you want to do it and how much.
Of course you’re also able to join a course. We highly recommend them to fight through plateaus or challenge yourself to the next level.
Learn the basics - for more fun
Having a personal trainer or coach to guide you through your workout is a really great option. However, this can be quite expensive and not affordable for everyone. The good news is: psychology shows that people who invested their own time and effort into an activity are more likely to continue with it.
You can use this to your advantage: Once you built your own training plan by yourself, for example with a workout builder like Effeqtiv Motion, things become way more fun. That’s why our training app encourages you to create your own workouts and train with them. Using our custom workout creator, you spend just a little amount of time, understanding which exercises are the best for you, so that when you are doing them they are already familiar.
The effect is that it feels less like a burden and you are in complete control. If you do have a coach who i on Effeqtiv Motion, you can even do his or her workouts and courses just right there. If not, it might be a good time to suggest them joining us.
More is better, but something is always better than nothing.
